College of Sciences Distinguished Speaker Series: A Peek Inside the Adaptable Aging Brain

Tuscawilla Country Club, 1500 Winter Springs Blvd., Winter Springs, FL 32708
March 21, 2018 @ 06:00 PM - 07:30 PM

College of Sciences Distinguished Speaker Series

Nichole Lighthall, PhD, Assistant Professor in the UCF Department of Psychology

For many, the phrase “brain aging” is accompanied by thoughts of cognitive decline or even dementia. In reality, the brain aging is far more complex – involving both gains and losses with a high degree of variability from person to person. Age-related changes to the brain can best be understood as a lifelong process of adaptation to biological, psychological, and environmental factors.

This talk will highlight new discoveries in neuroscience of aging and provide a better understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the aging brain.
